My name is Kate Rooney and I am currently 18 years old. I am a Senior at Blue Valley Northwest located in Overland Park, Kansas. In my free time, I play on a competitive soccer team. That travels around the country. I have been to many places because of soccer, it has helped me create many opportunities in my life. I am extremely grateful to play on the team I am on, and work with my coach and teammates. In school, I'm involved in high school soccer, yearbook, stugo, quill and scroll, Letters of Love, Team Up for St. Jude, and National Honors Society. I try to get involved in as much as I can. I want to graduate high school feeling proud of the last 4 years. I also think this is a crucial time to learn important skills that you will use for the rest of your life. Working with all sorts of people has helped me become more social, kind, and patient. My main interest right now is Journalism and Political Science and I hope to work with both of these in my job one day. I took an interest in writing at a young age and decided to take honors English language arts and journalism to enhance my writing abilities. I want to make a difference with what I write. I also picked up an interest in photography and graphic design. I think these are all important skills to have. Being able to understand each part of journalism is valuble.
